128-bit and 256-bit systems not yet available to consumers only in sophisticated data and AI centers

Currently, there are no 128-bit or 256-bit systems available to consumers on the market. The development of such systems is still in the early stages and there are several challenges that must be overcome before they can be widely available.

128-bit systems

Technological challenges: Developing a stable and efficient 128-bit operating system and associated hardware is a complex technical challenge. There are no 128-bit processors on the market yet, and it would require significant investment in research and development to create them.

Limited demand: There is currently no great demand for 128-bit computing from the market. Most users find the capabilities of 64-bit systems sufficient for their needs.

Cost: The development and production of 128-bit systems would be very expensive, leading to high prices for consumers.

256-bit systems

256-bit systems are even more of a pipe dream than 128-bit systems. The technological challenges and limited demand are even greater here.

AI centers

For special applications such as in AI centers, systems are sometimes used that work internally with 128-bit or even 256-bit data, but these are highly specialized systems for specific tasks, such as training very large neural networks. These systems are not comparable to the computers that consumers use.

Focus on GPUs: AI centers mainly use graphic processors (GPUs) that are optimized for parallel calculations, which is essential for AI applications. The bit width of the CPU is less important here.

Conclusion

Although 128-bit or even 256-bit systems may become available in the future, this is not yet the case at the moment. The development of such systems is a complex process and there are still many challenges to overcome. AI centers do use specialized systems that work with larger data widths internally, but these are not comparable to the computers that consumers use.
