Terroristic attacks in Brussels Airport

This day is one of the darkest days in the history of Belgium by two terrorist attacks on Belgian soil. These terrorist actions are claimed by the IS terror group.

Around 8 am there are two loud explosions heard in Brussels Airlines airport. Two bomb packages would has exploded in the departure lounge. At once it was declared as a terror attack and the whole building was evacuated, threat level of terror attack has been raised to level 4 over the whole country. We speak of 13 dead and 35 wounded. Air traffic is diverted to other European airports. Schools and other important buildings are constantly monitored by the Belgian police.

Around 9:15 am, a second attack with an explosion is committed to the Metro Station Maalbeek in Brussels. The Metro and the train system is evacuated and sealed. With a military evacuation and 21 dead people as a result.

Three days earlier, on March 19, 2016 was Abdeslam Salah arrested, one of the leaders of the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015. He was arrestested by the Belgian security services in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek around 17 hours. The raid lasted 18 weeks. The two top terror actions are a response of IS on the arrest of Abdeslam Salah. The Western World is speechless and indignant.

Belgium waffles grandmas recipe

The smell of Belgium waffles, hmm... !!

Everyone wants to know how to make Belgium waffles. And who knows the best how to make Belgium waffles?

One of our Belgium grandmothers of course.

With grandmother's style everything taste better. Because grandmothers know the secret of baking and cooking. Almost every grandmother from Belgium use this recipe to make their homemade waffles.

Ingredients
1 kg plain flour
1 liter of milk
500 g butter
10 eggs
200 g sugar
2 packets of vanilla sugar
10 g salt
1/2 liter of water

Preparation
Beat the eggs up.

Melt the butter gently in a large pot.

Add the sugar and the eggs.

Add the sifted flour and vanilla sugar while stirring. Make a good stirring so that you obtain a good batter.

Let the dough cool off for one day in the fridge and bake the waffles after the dough has rest a day.

Grease the waffle iron with oil.

Apply 2 x 1 tablespoons in the iron and let the waffles bake until they see golden.

Tip
This recipe is for about 30 wafers
It takes about an hour to bake grandmas waffles from Belgium with one waffle iron.

Dam of Robertville nearby Warche. There you can walk through the forest to a castle.

Coalmine of Blegny is out of order but can be still visited. A visit to this coal mine usually leaves a deep impression to the visitors.

Roof of church falls down in Diepenbeek, Belgium after the celebration of Christmas Night

Saturday 25, 2010. In Lutselus, a parish of the Limburg Diepenbeek, collapsed a church after the celebration of Christmas Night, about 4 hours in the morning. The church collapsed because of the enormous weight of snow on its roof. Only the front, the back and a piece of the tower are still standing. De grotten van Neptunus (Couvin - Frasnes - Petigny)

De rondleiding begint aan de voet van een steile rots van kalksteen over een loopbrug boven de wilde grillige rivier 'Eau Noir'. Daarna wandel je voorbij een indrukwekkende kloof, waar het water in de diepte verdwijnt. Hier begint de tocht in de grotten. De rivier `Eau Noir' dankt zijn naam aan de donkere kleur van het water. Dit komt door de leisteen in Tierag en de kalksteen uit Tienne, die het water uitholt en meevoert. De bron van deze zwarte rivier bevindt zich op 20 km van de grens. In de grotten bevinden zich vleermuizen. Er leven er 3 verschillende soorten waaronder de grootste zo'n 30 cm zijn.

De rondleiding wordt onderverdeeld in 4 delen. Het eerste tweede en derde deel bevindt zich boven in de grot. Voor het laatste deel gaan we naar beneden in de grot, meer bepaald op plaatsen waar het water zo'n 60 cm diep is.

In de eerste plaats waar men binnenkomt bevindt zich de versteende waterval. Dit komt door de erosie van het water dat het zachte kalkgesteente uitschuurt. Hier zien we dat de rivier is weggezakt en krijgen we een mooi spektakel te zien van gordijnen in kalk op de plaatsen waar het water is weggetrokken.

Op de tweede plaats vindt men vooral stalactieten en stalagmieten. Die worden bekomen door de afzetting van kalk en het kristalliseren ervan. Stalagmieten worden gevormd door de afzetting van kalk die op de grond een toren vormt. Met andere woorden, de stalagmieten worden gevormd van beneden naar boven toe. (Stalagmieten - monter: omhoog gaan). De stalactieten worden gevormd boven aan de rots en groeien naar beneden toe (stalactieten - tomber: vallen). Wanneer een stalagmiet en een stalactiet tegen elkaar zijn gegroeid spreekt men van zuilen en kolommen. Deze stalactieten en stalagmieten groeien gemiddeld 1 cm per eeuw.

Op de derde plaatst ziet men een groene kleur op de rotsen. Dit komt door de planten en de algen die op de rotsen groeien. Dit betekend dat het hier vochtiger is dan op de voorgaande plaatsen. Ook zien we een breuk tussen de kalklagen. Dit is ontstaan door de kalk. Je ziet er in deze lagen schelpen en koralen. Deze tonen aan dat vroeger de zee tot hier kwam. Na dit te hebben bezichtigd gaan we via een tunnel naar een dieper gelegen gebied in de grotten. De tunnel is 160 m lang en mondt uit op een plaats waar je de `zwarte rivier' kan bevaren met bootjes. Hier start dan ook onze laatste gedeelte bij het bezoek in de grotten. De hele groep wordt onder 3 bootjes verdeeld. Op de boottocht zien we stalagmieten en andere mooie bezienswaardigheden. Het water is er koud en is gemiddeld 60 cm diep. Dan varen we naar het mooiste spektakel van ons bezoek. Een licht en geluid spektakel op het water. Met verschillende kleuren en geluiden krijgen we stalagmieten te zien. Ook komt er een mooie waterval te voorschijn die in alle kleuren te bezichtigen is. Nadat dit is afgelopen varen we verder met de boot naar het eind van de grotten. Daar zien we al snel de uitgang waar de zon door de rotsopening straalt. Het was vooral een mooi bezoek en mochten we nog eens in de streek zijn, we zouden het zeker opnieuw gaan bezoeken.
