In the period before South Sudan it formed along with North Sudan: Sudan. But the years of civil war that began in 1981 made an end to it. Though there are areas that are still plagued by rebels. History In the 19th century South Sudan belonged to Egypt as a province under the name of Equatoria. Democracy and freedom The democracy and the state structure within South Sudan is still at the verry beginning stage. South Sudan has one of the poorest economy in the world. But they are making progress. The economy is divided into numerous departments such as oil and gas and thats a beginning. The population Most of the people are Animistic, a small minority is Christian or Islamic. More than 37 million people lives in Southern Sudan.
